It’s been half a century since Carnival Cruise Line marked its maiden voyage from PortMiami, and today, the cruise line celebrated 50 years of fun from the same place.

During the 50th-birthday event at PortMiami, Carnival Cruise Line President Christine Duffy, Carnival Corp. Chairman Micky Arison, and Carnival Corp. CEO Arnold Donald announced a $50,000 donation to World Central Kitchen to support Ukrainian relief efforts in the name of more than 300 team members from the country. In addition, Carnival also presented a $50,000 donation to long-standing partner Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Miami.

“On this very day, 50 years ago, history was made when the first Carnival Cruise Line ship, the TSS Mardi Gras, embarked on her maiden voyage from right here at PortMiami,” Duffy said. “For half a century, we have made cruising available to everyone and have provided millions of people with fun and memorable vacations. It’s an honor to be celebrating our five decades of sailing [and] we look forward to what the next 50 years holds.”

Carnival’s 50-year collaboration with Miami-Dade County and PortMiami has resulted in significant economic development for the area, including the recent expansion of the state-of-the-art Terminal F at PortMiami. Terminal F will also serve as the homeport for Carnival Celebration – Carnival’s second Excel-class ship powered by Liquefied Natural Gas – which will be unveiled later this year as part of Carnival’s 50th birthday festivities.

“It’s our 50th birthday […] and we are so happy to be celebrating with you because we know you’re the ones to thank for this major milestone,” Duffy said. “Boy, have we come a long, long way in 50 years and wherever we went, many of you came with us just like a true family. And let me emphasize the ‘with us’ – especially these past two years – because even after everything we’ve all had to endure, you have stood with us and we are so very grateful. This is why we say that while it may be our birthday, the party is for you. So, we’re making sure it’s truly epic with you all as our guests of honor.”
