Cedar Point celebrates spuds

Cedar Point amusement park in Sandusky, Ohio has been serving up fresh-cut fries for more than 75 years. From Sept. 9-11, 2022, the park will celebrate the humble spud with its first-ever “Happy Friar’s Fresh-Cut Fries Fest.”

The name of the celebration is a mouthful, but an even better mouthful are the new varieties of hand-cut fries that will debut during the event weekend, including:

Bento Fries – Surimi (fish-based crab stick), wasabi aioli, yum yum sauce (mayonnaise, ketchup, vinegar, garlic, sugar, paprika), green onions, and black sesame seeds.

Birria Fries – Shredded beef brisket, chihuahua cheese, birria oil, sliced red Fresno chilies, cilantro, and diced red onion.

These new concoctions will only be available during the festival. The park’s current Buffalo Fries, Garlic Parmesan Fries, Original Fries, and Chili & Cheese Fries will also be on offer.

Can’t get enough of that fried potato goodness? Dive into the Mt. Spudmore, a massive pile of potatoes that weighs more than three pounds, and, for the sake of your waistline, should realistically be shared.

Mt. Spudmore features four fresh-cut fries variations: Cajun Fries with cherry pepper and pineapple jam, Garlic Parmesan Fries with lemon aioli, and Dried Mushroom and Truffle Fries with basil pesto, with Cedar Point’s Original Fries topping the whole thing off. The towering assemblage is only available from noon-4 p.m. during the festival.
