Celebrate National Roller Coaster Day with double the thrills in Las Vegas

The Strat Hotel, Casino & SkyPod in Las Vegas (formerly the Stratosphere, Casino, Hotel & Tower) is upping the ante on Aug. 16 for National Roller Coaster Day. Thrill-seekers can celebrate the hair-raising holiday with two-for-one thrills on the three “high rolling” rides at the top of the iconic 1,149-foot-tall SkyPod tower — the tallest freestanding observation tower in the United States.

The one-day National Roller Coaster Day offer includes buy-one-get-one rides on the Strat’s three thrilling attractions:

  • X-Scream – A space-age-like teeter-totter that propels daring riders headfirst 27 feet over the edge of the SkyPod from 866 feet in the air where they dangle above the Las Vegas Strip (riders must be at least 52 inches tall).
  • Big Shot – A 45 mile-per-hour catapult that shoots 16 thrill-seeking riders from a 921-foot-high platform on Skypod’s mast to a height of 1,081 feet over the Las Vegas skyline (riders must be at least 48 inches tall).
  • Insanity – A massive mechanical arm that extends 64 feet over the edge of the SkyPod at a height of over 866 feet, spinning pairs of passengers in the open air at an angle of 70 degrees and at speeds of up to three Gs (riders must be at least 52 inches tall).

Single ride tickets are $5 plus handling fees (SkyPod admission is not included). Tickets may be purchased on Aug. 16 at The Strat’s box office located on the main floor.

“We know a lot of people are ready for a Las Vegas escape,” said Stephen Thayer, vice president and general manager of The Strat Hotel, Casino & Skypod. “We hope to give everyone the Las Vegas trip of a lifetime, while also doing everything we can to ensure a safe, healthy stay.”
