Celebrities reveal their Hogwarts house

Most diehard Harry Potter fans have taken the official Pottermore quiz to find out which Hogwarts house they’ve been sorted into (and if you haven’t yet, now’s your chance), but many celebrities have also pledged allegiance to Gryffindor, Ravenclaw, Hufflepuff, or Slytherin.

According to the Sorting Hat that determines which house a person is placed, the brave belong to Gryffindor, the intellectual to Ravenclaw, the hardworking to Hufflepuff, and the cunning to Slytherin.

That being said, some fans (celebrities included) don’t trust the magical hat and sort themselves into a particular Hogwarts house, often to align with Harry as a Gryffindor or if they tend towards the dark arts with Voldemort (AKA Tom Riddle) as a Slytherin.

Which Celebrities are in Gryffindor?

“You might belong in Gryffindor, where dwell the brave of heart. Their daring, nerve, and chivalry set Gryffindors apart.”

Unlike her character Luna Lovegood (a Ravenclaw), actor Evanna Lynch was sorted into Gryffindor – twice. Lynch told the crowd at Universal Orlando’s 2016 Harry Potter Celebration that she took the quiz in 2011 and got Gryffindor but was still nervous when she took the relaunched quiz in 2016.

“I almost didn’t do it because I didn’t want my Gryffindorness taken away,” she said. “Then I thought, a Gryffindor wouldn’t be afraid of that.”

As Lynch stated, Gryffindors are known for bravery, so it makes perfect sense that Spider-Man – and self-proclaimed Harry Potter super fan – Tom Holland was also sorted into Gryffindor. However, another comic book actor, Margot Robbie/Harley Quinn, admitted to Elle Magazine that she “helped” the quiz sort her into Harry’s house (which is actually very Harley Quinn-like).

“I’m in Gryffindor, obviously… but I totally rigged my answers,” she said. “I could totally tell which answers were going to get me into Gryffindor, and so those were my answers. I do think I’d be in Gryffindor anyway, but I definitely manipulated the quiz in my favor. I wouldn’t have been bummed with Ravenclaw, though.”

In 2017, actor Tom Felton (AKA notorious Slytherin, Draco Malfoy) told HuffPost that he thought Kim Kardashian, Justin Bieber, and Miley Cyrus would all be fellow Slytherins – but it turns out he’s actually a Gryffindor.

Bonnie Wright, who plays Ginny Weasley, is a Gryffindor both on and off screen, but what about her Wizarding World mate, Harry Potter? Daniel Radcliffe has never confirmed whether or not he’s taken the sorting quiz but has said that, as far as he’s concerned, he’s a Gryffindor like Harry.

“I absolutely think I would be in Gryffindor!” Radcliffe wrote in a Reddit AMA. “Maybe I’m biased because I played one for so long, but I could never picture myself in any other colors.”

Which Celebrities are in Ravenclaw?

“Or yet in wise old Ravenclaw, if you’ve a ready mind, Where those of wit and learning can always find their kind.”

Notable Ravenclaws in the Harry Potter stories: Luna Lovegood, Cho Chang, Professor Flitwick

Warwick Davis (Professor Flitwick in the “Harry Potter” movies) and Darren Criss (Harry Potter in “A Very Potter Musical”) both identify as members of Ravenclaw house. Davis even donned the blue and silver when he attended an event at Universal’s Wizarding World of Harry Potter.

One celebrity Ravenclaw isn’t sure the Sorting Hat put her in the right Hogwarts house. “Star Wars” actress Kelly Marie Tran says the quiz placed her in Ravenclaw, but she thinks of herself as a Gryffindor.

“I feel like the Sorting Hat would have been like, ‘You should pick,’” she told BuzzFeed News in 2017. “And I would have picked Gryffindor.”

Continuing the Ravenclaw/Griffyndor theme, talk show host Stephen Colbert says that J.K. Rowling herself sorted him into Ravenclaw – but, she noted, with “Gryffindor undertones.”

Which Celebrities are in Hufflepuff?

“You might belong in Hufflepuff, where they are just and loyal. Those patient Hufflepuffs are true and unafraid of toil.”

Notable Hufflepuffs in the Harry Potter stories: Newt Scamander (featured in the “Fantastic Beasts” franchise), Cedric Diggory, Professor Sprout, and Nymphadora Tonks.

It’s no surprise that Eddie Redmayne is Hufflepuff proud, just like his “Fantastic Beasts” character Newt Scamander, so much so that he defended his house in a 2016 PSA-style video for MTV After Hours.

Also in 2016, Dwayne Johnson announced to the crowd at the MTV Movie Awards that he too is a proud Hufflepuff – and then doubled down on Twitter.

Unlike Redmayne, who aligns with his Wizarding World character, neither Rupert Grint (Ron Weasley) nor Matthew Lewis (Neville Longbottom) is a Gryffindor; instead, the Pottermore quiz determined both actors are Hufflepuffs – and after Lewis learned The Rock is a housemate, he was even happier to rep the yellow and black.

In a surprising turn of events, Deadpool (not actor Ryan Reynolds, but the actual comic-book character) is not only a Harry Potter fan, but identifies as Hufflepuff. Who knew?

“[I] originally made him a Gryffindor,” the issue’s colorist, Nick Filardi, wrote on Reddit in 2016. “We went back and forth […] and the editors insisted Hufflepuff. That isn’t a casual joke. That’s deliberate Deadpool cannon.”

Which Celebrities are in Slytherin?

“Or perhaps in Slytherin you’ll make your real friends. Those cunning folk use any means to achieve their ends.”

Notable Slytherins in the Harry Potter stories: Voldemort/Tom Riddle, Draco Malfoy, Severus Snape, Horace Slughorn, Albus Potter (featured in “The Cursed Child”).

After unsuccessfully trying to convince fans in 2015 that he’s in Slytherin house, Lin-Manuel Miranda came up with the proof the following year when he proudly tweeted his quiz results.

Another proud celebrity Slytherin is actor and writer Mindy Kaling who, after Entertainment Weekly posted that they’d place her in Hufflepuff, was quick to set them straight.

Second only to Tom Riddle, the most significant Slytherin in the “Harry Potter” books and movies is Professor Snape, played by the late Alan Rickman. In a 2017 interview, Rickman confirmed if he were a Hogwarts student, he would certainly have been loyal to Slytherin.

Even celebrities have to take the official quiz to find out their Hogwarts house. Actor and singer Jordan Fisher and “The Walking Dead” star Andrew Lincoln (narrator of the “Quidditch Through the Ages” audiobook) both took their sorting quizzes on camera.
