The beginning of the holiday season is kicked off by the installation of the 35-foot-tall Banquet Hall Fraser fir tree. It took over 50 staff members to carry the tree on their shoulders into the Banquet Hall where a system of ropes helped to secure the tree in place.

A nod to the tradition of opening his home to friends and family started by George Vanderbilt on Christmas Eve 1895, the tree is decorated with 500 ornaments and lights while wrapped packages are tucked into its branches. The tree serves as the centerpiece of the season in the home’s immense Banquet Hall.

Throughout the Biltmore, other decorations include 67 hand-decorated Christmas trees, more than 14,000 ornaments, 45,000 lights, 250 candles, 1,000 feet of garland, and 150 traditional poinsettias.

Guests visiting the annual event have two options for seeing the Christmas décor. A daylight tour of the home occurs each day from Nov. 4-Jan. 8, and an evening candlelight tour occurs during evening hours from Nov. 4-Jan. 7.

In addition to the grand Christmas celebrations, the Biltmore is paying homage to Fredrick Law Olmstead, the estate’s landscape architect. The Biltmore team of floral designers designed the decorations around the theme of a “Winter Landscape” to bring the outdoors in and honor Olmstead’s achievements.

A new exhibit, “Leonardo da Vinci: 500 Years of Genius” requires a separate ticket for entry, and is available to experience now through February 20, 2023. This is a digital art exhibit held in the event space at Biltmore, Amherst at Deerpark.

Holiday packages are available for guests and include tickets to the Biltmore and lodging on the property in the Four-star Inn, Village Hotel, or historic cottages. For more information or to purchase tickets, visit www.biltmore.com/christmas.
