MSC Seascape launches with the customizable Robotron thrill ride
On Dec. 8, 2022, MSC Cruises welcomed MSC Seascape to its fleet, along with Robotron, the first-ever customizable onboard interactive robotic thrill ride.
MSC Cruises’ newest ship is packed from stem to stern with high-tech entertainment – including two new VR experiences – but the most notable is the debut of Robotron, the cruise industry’s first interactive thrill ride that combines the excitement of a roller coaster with personalized music and lighting.
What is Robotron?
Developed for MSC Seascape by RWS Entertainment Group, Robotron uses technology to create a unique guest experience with each customizable ride. The ride’s robotic arm was built by KUKA, the same company that built the arms for Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey attraction at Universal parks.
Features of Robotron:
- Riders select their desired thrill level (a first among robotic arm rides).
- Riders select their music preference and colored light display.
- Rhythm and bass are visualized as colorful patterns and pulses of light on a giant, adjacent video screen.
- The robotic arm has an attached gondola that seats three, flying them nearly 175 feet above the sea.
Riders use a pre-ride touchscreen to select from a menu of popular music options, with the Volume 1 mix featuring more than 20 popular songs, including five bonus “hidden” tracks.

MSC Seascape will sail from Miami to the Caribbean and the Bahamas for her inaugural season, with two itineraries: Eastern Caribbean calling at Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve and Nassau in The Bahamas, San Juan in Puerto Rico, and Puerto Plata in the Dominican Republic, and Western Caribbean calling at Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve, Cozumel in Mexico, George Town in the Cayman Islands, and Ocho Rios in Jamaica.
