Discovery Princess, the newest Medallion class ship in the Princess Cruise Line fleet, welcomed its first passengers on board for its maiden voyage to the Mexican Riviera.
Michael and Sally Smith, long-time Princess passengers, were welcomed aboard by Princess President John Padgett and Captain Gennaro Arma as the ship’s first guests, ahead of a March 27, 2022 departure from the Port of Los Angeles for a cruise to the Mexican Riviera.
Discovery Princess is the 15th vessel in the Princess fleet and features elegant appointments, world-class entertainment, gourmet culinary and beverage offerings, a wide selection of alfresco dining spots, and glorious sea views from the cruise line’s largest balconies at sea in the Sky Suites.
Built at the Fincantieri shipyard in Monfalcone, Italy, the 3,660-guest ship shares the luxury of her sister ships, Enchanted Princess, Sky Princess, Majestic Princess, Regal Princess, and Royal Princess.
“Today we celebrate our newest ship, Discovery Princess, as she sets sail on her maiden voyage to the Mexican Riviera from the Port of Los Angeles – the same port our very first cruise departed from in 1964,” said John Padgett, Princess Cruise president. “Cruising is back, and the elegant Discovery Princess showcases the many reasons why travelers should take a cruise now. We also recognize and applaud the ship’s company, who will work tirelessly to deliver memorable cruise vacations to all who sail on this magnificent cruise ship.”
A series of Mexican Riviera and California Coast voyages will take place from March 27-April 24, before the ship heads up the Pacific coast to begin a full 2022 season of seven-day Alaska cruises out of Seattle.
The ship’s naming ceremony will take place on April 29, 2022, at the Port of Los Angeles.
During their journey, guests will enjoy innovative new experiences, along with eco-friendly technologies and the Medallion wearable device that ensures everything from expedited contactless boarding to locating friends and family anywhere onboard the ship.
