Disney’s 16-bit ‘Aladdin,’ ‘The Lion King’ video games get remastered release
Two classic video games from your childhood are getting a second life this fall. The Disney 16-bit “Aladdin” and “The Lion King” games are getting a re-release on Oct. 29 with new features and enhancements.
“Disney Classic Games: Aladdin and The Lion King” will be released for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. The two-pack will include the original titles, which feature upscaled graphics for high-definition displays and other upgrades for gameplay on modern consoles. This collection also includes the new ‘final cut’ of “Aladdin” and an original trade show demo of the game, which hasn’t been available to the public since 1993.
Players will be able to take advantage of a variety of support options with the remastered game, including:
- Instant save states
- A “rewind” button that jumps gameplay back 15 seconds
- Level Select
- Invulnerability
- Infinite lives
One unique addition to this re-release is the “Interactive Game Viewer,” with which players can few full play-throughs of each game and have the ability to skip forward, jump in and play at any point. (Which means you can finally get past the Elephant Graveyard!)
Another highlight of this release is an “explorable museum” for each game that includes behind-the-scenes interviews, an art gallery, and a music player for both “Aladdin” and “The Lion King.”
“Disney Classic Games: Aladdin and The Lion King” will also feature multiple platform versions of the games, including Sega Genesis, Game Boy, and Super Game Boy, as well as “The Lion King” on Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES).
These remastered ports are being crafted by Digital Eclipse, the same team that brought you the remastered “Disney Afternoon Collection” in 2017.
You can pick up a physical copy of “Disney Classic Games: Aladdin and The Lion King” for yourself on Oct. 29 for $29.99 at most major retailers. The collection is rated E10+ by the ESRB, and pre-orders are available now.
