D23 Day at Disneyland

Among all the huge news revealed at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event, you may have missed the dark horse of the weekend: Clarabelle Cow and Horace Horsecollar’s horse-themed dance party at Disneyland, captured by our friends at MouseSteps.com.

D23 Day at Disneyland took place Aug. 8, 2024, the day before the official kick-off of the D23 convention in Anaheim, Calif. The one-day-only special event included special appearances by Disney Legends, the debut of the titular character from “Disney Jr.’s Ariel,” and an under-the-radar dance party in Tomorrowland that no one saw coming.

Clarabelle and Horace love Chappell Roan

At Tomorrowland Terrace — the same venue where Perry the Platypus danced to “Gasolina” by Daddy Yankee earlier this year during Disneyland After Dark — Horace Horsecollar became “DJ Horace” and took over the console for a set of horse-themed tunes, to which Clarabelle aptly danced along:

  • “Old Town Road” by Lil Nas X
  • “High Horse” by Kacey Musgraves
  • “White Horse” by Taylor Swift
  • “Pink Pony Club” by Chappell Roan
  • “Watch Me (Whip / Nae Nae)” by Silentó

Decked out in rare space-themed outfits, Clarabelle and Horace proved, yet again, that guests should never overlook their presence at a Disney theme park. Their Tomorrowland dance party was just the kind of unhinged, iconic energy they seem to bring to any function of the modern era.

Take a look:

Clarabelle and Horace, Disney icons

Clarabelle and Horace may not appear as frequently in the parks as Minnie and Mickey, but when they show up, they bring the party. Clarabelle has been a star on the parade route two years running during Disneyland’s Pride Nite event. She likewise steals the show over on the east coast with an annual rendition of “All I Want for Christmas is You,” singing into a bedazzled microphone and arriving in a disco ball sleigh during Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party at Magic Kingdom.

In the earliest Mickey Mouse cartoons of the 1920s and ’30s, Clarabelle and Horace were practically series regulars alongside Mickey, Minnie, Pluto, and Pete. As the ’30s progressed and the Disney artists introduced new characters like Donald Duck and Goofy, earlier mainstays like Clarabelle and Horace showed up less and less often. Today, they occasionally appear in “Mickey Mouse Funhouse,” a Disney Jr. series.
