Disney and Elf on the Shelf are turning a fan tradition into official merchandise

Disney and The Elf on the Shelf are turning a fan tradition into official merchandise with a new collaboration inspired by families who already use holiday elf reveals to surprise children with Disney vacations.

The collaboration between Disney and The Lumistella Company, creator of “The Elf on the Shelf,” will introduce Disney-themed Scout Elves, storybooks, and accessories featuring characters like Mickey Mouse, Olaf, Disney Princesses, and Spider-Man for the 2026 holiday season.

According to the announcement first shared with Parade, the partnership was inspired in part by the growing number of families incorporating Disney fandom into their Elf on the Shelf traditions — including using Scout Elves to reveal upcoming Disney Parks vacations.

Holiday magic

For years, Disney fans on social media have shared elaborate Elf on the Shelf setups involving:

  • surprise Walt Disney World trips
  • hidden park tickets
  • countdown calendars
  • MagicBand reveals
  • Disney-themed scavenger hunts

Some guests bring their elves along on their Walt Disney World vacation, as seen in this Instagram post from @laukaixin below.

Now, Disney is officially stepping into that tradition with branded products designed around the concept.

“We worked closely with Disney to find just the right brands to launch our collection with, which of course had to start with the icons, Mickey and Minnie,” Pitts said.

“Olaf was a natural fit for the holidays, and the Disney Princesses and Spider-Man have some of the largest fandoms among kids today.”

The first collection will feature several Disney properties, including:

  • Mickey & Friends
  • “Frozen”
  • Disney Princesses
  • Marvel’s Spider-Man

“This first-of-its-kind collaboration will help families celebrate the holidays with their elf being a fan of exactly what they are a fan of,” Bell explained.

“So whether it’s a hanging Spider-Man-themed elf or a Disney Princess in training, these clothes, props, kits and carriers will fuel the fun of the tradition.”

The companies say more collections and character additions are planned in the future.

Beyond the parks

The collaboration also reflects how Disney continues expanding into broader seasonal and lifestyle traditions beyond its theme parks.

Holiday partnerships, collectible merchandise, themed movie tie-ins, and seasonal retail collaborations have become an increasingly visible part of Disney’s overall consumer products strategy in recent years.

This latest collaboration arrives as Disney fans are also seeing more holiday-focused crossover products tied to:

  • Hallmark holiday programming
  • collectible popcorn buckets and theater merchandise
  • LEGO seasonal collections
  • limited-time retail collaborations

Festive fandom

The announcement itself centers on merchandise, but the Disney vacation reveal angle is something theme park fans are already planning holiday trips and surprise family vacations. While other fans may be figuring out how to bring their elves along on this year’s holiday season vacation.

This Instagram post from @thekhuufamily shows how they brought their elves along on their festive season Disney cruise.

The new collection is expected to roll out ahead of the 2026 holiday season through major retailers and online storefronts. For now, get in the holiday spirit with the video of Walt Disney World Christmas Decorations.
