Published by Disney Editions, the 144-page guide is the first company-sanctioned book about runDisney. In addition to text by Douglas, the book will feature material by Olympians Jeff Galloway and Molly Huddle.

The runDisney guidebook will not only cover info specific to Disney races, but also the basics of running in general, including advice about which race to choose, what gear runners need, and how to prepare for a runDisney event while simultaneously planning a Disney vacation.

Glancing over preview images of select pages, we notice a breakdown of a typical runDisney calendar, an hourly schedule for race day, a cosplay primer, and abundant photography, including a gallery of previous years’ medals.

The Growing Popularity of runDisney

From humble beginnings, runDisney has grown to become a subject complex enough to warrant its own guidebook. Road race events hosted at Disney theme parks began in 1994, and became known as runDisney in 2010. Over 20 wellness events (including races, yoga gatherings, and parties) are currently scheduled through the next year at Walt Disney World Resort in Florida and Disneyland Resort in California.

Disney Editions also publishes official guides to Walt Disney World and Disneyland at large annually, under the Birnbaum series; however, unlike the Birnbaum books, the new runDisney title is not dated with a year.

More runDisney

In 2022, we interviewed Olympic gold medalist Sanya Richards-Ross following the athlete’s first runDisney race.

The runDisney events are open to handcycle competitors. Ride along with one of them in this video from our archives — and be on the lookout for architecture and attractions that have since closed.
