“Christmas at Dollywood” will premiere in December as part of Hallmark Channel’s Countdown to Christmas, and will star Danica McKellar (“The Wonder Years”). Principal photography for the film will begin in August, but the Dollywood scenes will not be filmed until this November.

In the film, Rachel Lewis (played by McKellar) is a single mom and award-winning Broadway producer who learns that her latest theatrical project has been mismanaged by investors into bankruptcy – forcing the show to close before it even opens. Luckily, a friend calls with an offer for Rachel to produce a show for the 20th anniversary of the Smoky Mountain Christmas festival at Dollywood.

But there’s a catch: this show is a co-production with Luke Hakman, entertainment director at the park. Luke has dreams of becoming the park’s next general manager, and sees this show is his ticket to moving up.

With her nine-year-old daughter Amy, Rachel leaves the Big Apple and sets out for the theme park. Each night, Rachel tells Amy a bedtime story, and one inspires an idea for the new Dollywood show – but she has to convince Luke, who’s got his own ideas for a successful production. The two must meet in the middle to please the boss, this is Dollywood, after all!

“Dolly Parton is a bright light who is rich in spirit, kindness and love. ‘Christmas at Dollywood features Danica McKellar in a story about finding love and new beginnings in the most familiar place – home,” said Michelle Vicary, executive vice president of Programming and Network Publicity for Crown Media Family Networks. “A holiday movie set in a winter wonderland like Dollywood exemplifies the quality of the talent, storytelling and filmmaking that has made Countdown to Christmas the #1 program event on television for 10 years.”

  1. I live 20 miles from Dollywood. I would love to know how to be an “extra” in the part of this that will be filmed at Dollywood. I have a gold season pass and know this park like the back of my hand. It truely is my Happy Place.

  2. I’m a season pass holder from Anderson,SC , my wife is Gold Pass Holder. We visit DollyWood numerous times every year during the operating season. I espically love Winter season the best at DollyWood. I would love to know how to be an extra in the movie to be filmed in the Park.

    1. I don’t believe there’s any set way to ensure you’re an extra in the park. The set days for filming likely won’t be shared with the public ahead of time.
