Dollywood hosts second annual Sensory Sensitive Day
Dollywood will its second annual Sensory Sensitive Day on Nov. 18, 2023, as part of the park’s ongoing commitment to “making fun and excitement accessible to everyone.”
Sensory Sensitive Day ensures visitors with sensory sensitivities can enjoy Dollywood’s attractions and entertainment to the fullest extent, with accommodations that include reduced noise levels, quieter music, and limited light displays in designated areas, including the Village, Country Fair, and Santa’s List.
The Village opens to all park guests at 11 a.m., but Country Fair and Santa’s List will be available exclusively for attendees until noon.
Silent Rides on The Dollywood Express
For Sensory Sensitive Day, The Dollywood Express will offer an exclusive ride experience shortly after the park opens with a “silent” trip aboard the iconic train (meaning the whistle will not be blown throughout the 20-minute journey).
The train will make two silent trips during the event; however, visitors with sensory issues should be aware that even though the train whistle will not blow from 9 a.m. to noon, there are other sounds associated with this trip to which guests may be sensitive.
The event concludes at noon when the exclusive areas open to the public and lights and sounds resume on their regular operating schedule.
Sensory-Friendly Rides and Attractions at Dollywood
Sensory-sensitive guests can find sensory-friendly rides and attractions throughout the park, including Lil’ Pilots Playground, Granny’s Garden, Rockin’ Roadway, and Dragonflier. Guests can also enjoy a hands-on candle dipping activity at Old Flames Candles.
Popular shows for sensory sensitivity include ‘Twas The Night Before Christmas and O’ Holy Night.
Ride Accessibility Center
Guests attending Sensory Sensitive Day will have access to Dollywood’s Ride Accessibility Center (RAC), located next to the Dollywood Emporium.
RAC staff can provide detailed information about rider requirements to help families make well-informed decisions to safely, comfortably, and conveniently experience Dollywood’s roller coasters, as well as provide a boarding pass tailored to each individual for rides they can enjoy. Dollywood’s Calming Room will also be accessible to families and individuals if needed.
The newly opened Dollywood’s Heartsong Lodge is taking reservations for the holiday season.
