Universal Orlando Resort announced the project last summer and today revealed the area’s official name — DreamWorks Land — as well as its slate of attractions, all based on films from the Universal-owned DreamWorks Animation.

The land occupies real estate formerly belonging to much of Woody Woodpecker’s KidZone, with several attractions repurposed for the new animated residents plus a few experiences that are completely fresh.

Passholders will get to preview the new land before its grand opening, which Universal did not specify beyond “summer 2024.”

Play Areas Dominate DreamWorks Land

Since DreamWorks Land will cater to younger guests, the neighborhood will offer several themed play areas.

  • Shrek’s Swamp For Little Ogres will be a multi-level outdoor playground with nets, water elements, and Shrek’s outhouse.
  • Mama Luna Feline Fiesta will invite guests into the cat retirement home from “Puss In Boots: The Last Wish” with interactive screens, buttons, and levers.
  • Po’s Kung Fu Training Camp (where “Curious George Goes to Town” formerly stood) will feature play structures both wet (water bucket, spray cannons) and dry (spinning noodle bowls).

Smaller play zones will include the ribbit-singing lily pads of King Harold’s Swamp Symphony (named after Fiona’s froggy father in “Shrek”) and the bouncing and climbing structures of Poppy’s Playground (named after Princess Poppy from “Trolls”).

Trollercoaster

The land’s only ride, Trolls Trollercoaster, will recycle the track from the defunct Woody Woodpecker’s Nuthouse Coaster with the Caterbus from the “Trolls” films serving as the ride vehicle for the kiddie coaster.

Meet & Greets with DreamWorks Characters

Favorite characters will greet guests within DreamWorks Land in both traditional meet & greets and elaborate experiences.

Visitors can expect to find:

  • Shrek, Fiona, and Donkey at Shrek’s Swamp Meet, located at Shrek’s house
  • Po from “Kung Fu Panda” at “Po Live!,” a digital, interactive experience
  • Gabby from “Gabby’s Dollhouse” and other DreamWorks friends at DreamWorks Character Zone

DreamWorks Dance Party

Inside the new DreamWorks Theater, “DreamWorks Imagination Celebration” will feature songs, dancing, and high-tech effects for a party inspired by DreamWorks films.

This seems to be a next-generation successor to “DreamWorks Destination,” the distanced character experience in the former “Day In the Park with Barney” theater.

DreamWorks Dining and Shopping

Themed food and beverages will connect to the land’s characters, including the Swamp Snacks kiosk serving items like the Shrekzel, the Far Far A Waffle, and the Frozen Ogre. Housed inside Poppy’s boombox, Trolls Treats, will sell ice cream with “Trolls”-inspired flavors, like Poppy-licious Pink (pink lemonade-flavored) and BroZone Berry (huckleberry-flavored).

High Five Hideaway, themed after Cloud Guy from “Trolls,” will be DreamWorks Land’s merchandise location, featuring souvenirs from all DreamWorks properties represented within the land.

DreamWorks Land Construction Progress

While Universal’s announcement today is the company’s first official mention of specific attractions and their names, DreamWorks Land construction has been ongoing for over a year, with several details visible for a while now.
