‘World’s most expensive dress’ goes on display Nov. 9 at Ripley’s Believe It or Not! Orlando
The “world’s most expensive dress,” which was worn by Marilyn Monroe, is now on display for a limited time at Ripley’s Believe It or Not! Orlando.
On May 19, 1962, Marilyn Monroe famously sang “Happy Birthday” to President John F. Kennedy for his 45th birthday at Madison Square Garden in a flesh-colored gown. Ripley’s Believe It or Not! set a new Guinness World Record for the most expensive dress sold at auction when they acquired the dress from Julien’s Auctions on Nov. 17, 2016 for $4.8 million (over $5 million with auction fees).
Marilyn Monroe’s iconic dress is now at Ripley’s Believe It or Not! Orlando!, and is the centerpiece of a new exhibit at the International Drive attraction. The exhibit also features tickets, posters, and other memorabilia from JFK’s birthday gala.
The dress will be on display in Orlando now until the end of the year; there is no announcement yet where it will be moved after that. For more about Ripley’s Believe It or Not! Orlando!, visit their website, and watch these videos:
