‘Fantasmic!’ returns to Disneyland in 2024 – but without its 45-foot dragon
On April 23, 2023, Disneyland guests watched in horror as the 45-foot Maleficent dragon animatronic figure caught fire during a performance of “Fantasmic!” Disneyland suspended the nighttime spectacular indefinitely at the time, but it was announced today that the show is scheduled to return in Spring 2024 – without the dragon.
Disneyland released the following statement: “Our goal is to always deliver the best possible show for our guests. With that in mind, we are planning the return of ‘Fantasmic!’ with exciting new magic in spring 2024.”
When “Fantasmic!” returns to Disneyland Park next year, it won’t include the dragon figure but will feature new special effects and a new climactic scene between Sorcerer Mickey and Maleficent.
As performers and Disneyland Cast Members prepare for “Fanasmic!’s” return, the park has launched new entertainment in New Orleans Square, including Queenie and the Jambalaya Jazz Band, who perform several times nightly. News about additional entertainment coming to the Rivers of America will be announced soon.
