Figment ‘series or short-form videos’ requested by Disney CEO Bob Iger

Figment — Disney’s purple dragon character and de facto mascot of Epcot — might star in his own series or shorts in the future.

During the annual Disney shareholders meeting on March 20, 2025, a shareholder asked CEO Bob Iger point-blank if Disney would utilize Figment beyond the character’s main role in Journey Into Imagination with Figment, a family-friendly ride at Epcot in Florida’s Walt Disney World.

Iger, lightheartedly acknowledging Figment’s popularity, responded in part, “I am going to ask our creative teams to consider making some form of series or short-form videos of Figment. Obviously he’s more popular than just a walk-around character at our parks and resorts.” (Full quote is transcribed below.)

Figment first debuted at Epcot in 1983. Guests can currently see the dragon, the embodiment of imagination and creativity, as an Audio-Animatronics figure in his namesake attraction. They can also meet Figment in person as a walk-around character at ImageWorks, the interactive center at the ride’s exit.

Previously, Disney created short-form YouTube videos starring Duffy, another popular character who originated in the theme parks.

In the mid-2010s, Figment also previously starred in his own set of Marvel comic books.

Back in 2022, Deadline reported a full Figment movie was in development from writers Dan Hernandez and Benji Samit (“Detective Pikachu”) with Point Grey, Seth Rogen’s production company. Iger did not mention that movie in his comments during the 2025 meeting.

In the way of a more formal announcement, Iger took the opportunity during the shareholders meeting to reveal Pixar’s plans to make “Coco 2,” with the original film’s director Lee Unkrich (who we recently saw on the Disney Treasure cruise ship) returning.

Shareholder: “Would the company consider using Figment in other parts of the business, such as creating a film based on the character?”

Bob Iger:

I think this is my 24th shareholder call, my 18th as CEO, and I think the question about Figment has been asked about 15 times. I call him Good ‘Ole Figment. Clearly he’s popular with shareholders from the fact that they ask questions about him all the time. We also know that he’s popular at Epcot, where you can meet him at Journey Into Imagination.

But I’ll tell you what: I have been asked this so many times, I am going to ask our creative teams to consider making some form of series or short-form videos of Figment. Obviously he’s more popular than just a walk-around character at our parks and resorts.

  1. Yeah, and what about his ride? Are they ever going to clean it up and bring back The Dreamfinder? I say, if they’re going to put Figment in any kind of film, short or full length, then his ride needs to absolutely be updated. If you introduce him to a whole new generation, which, let’s face it, you’re pretty much doing, then he deserves the respect of getting his ride and his Pavillion spruced up too. Please oh please oh please!!!
