First look at ‘Disney KiteTails’ daytime entertainment at Disney’s Animal Kingdom

Taking flight on Friday, Oct. 1 as part of Walt Disney World Resort’s 50th anniversary celebration, “Disney KiteTails,” a new daytime entertainment offering, will bring the magic of nature and Disney storytelling to new heights at Disney’s Animal Kingdom.

The show, which will be offered several times daily at the Discovery River Theater in DinoLand U.S.A., features original and worldbeat-style arrangements of classic Disney songs alongside oversized props and kites of animal friends from “The Little Mermaid,” “A Bug’s Life,” and “Finding Nemo.” The preshow features a few handheld kites floating through the air in the audience, as shown in the video below:

As the show builds, watercraft zooms into the lagoon, pulling along kite trails and 3D kites of characters from “The Lion King” and “The Jungle Book.” These kites, some as large as 30 feet in length, are inflated by moving through the air.

When most of the kites are finished being used in the show, they are tossed into the water or stored in unused areas of the theater, which can be a bit jarring for guests used to seeing unused aspects of shows going “offstage.”
