The Germany-inspired town of Frankenmuth, Michigan is known for its all-you-can-eat chicken dinners, with the family-owned Bavarian Inn Restaurant being one of the Zehnder family’s two major dining spots. Its success led to an expansion that added the Bavarian Inn Lodge in 1986.

Now, the resort will expand further, adding more family entertainment to the Lodge with an indoor water park and updates to the existing Family Fun Center.

“We are truly raising the bar on fun at the Lodge, creating unique attractions and new types of experiences within our resort,” said Michael Keller Zehnder, president of the Bavarian Inn Lodge. “This expansion will help us to advance our goal of creating fun and enjoyable experiences for all ages. We are reimagining family fun and see this as an exciting project for all of Frankenmuth.”

The ground breaking ceremony will take place on December 13 at 10 a.m. with spring of 2024 as the intended opening date for the water park and fall of 2023 as the opening date for some of the new Family Fun Center areas.

At 140,000 square feet, the expansion will earn the Lodge the title of Michigan’s largest indoor water park and family entertainment center.

All current Family Fun Center, conference and banquet rooms, water slides, pools, and restaurants will remain open during construction. R.C. Hendrick & Son, Inc. will act as General Contractor for the project, having built all of the Lodge’s six previous phases.
