Escape room review: ‘Galactic Beef: The Cosmic Adventures of Star Cow’ at Doldrick’s Escape Room
A short time ago in an escape room not too far away, Attractions Magazine was invited to experience “Galactic Beef: The Cosmic Adventures of Star Cow,” the newest escape room from Doldrick’s Escape Room. With the referential humor and playful wit fans have come to expect from Doldrick’s, this sci fi parody sends players across the galaxy alongside Star Cow and her clucky co pilot to rescue a mysterious stranger whose secret could determine the fate of everything.

A bold, story-driven escape room
Doldrick’s has produced several high-quality and innovative escape rooms that push narrative structure and incorporate technology in compelling ways. “Galactic Beef” may be their most ambitious effort yet, and possibly their most divisive.
The creative team clearly wanted to expand what storytelling inside an escape room can look like. The experience features a fully developed and evolving storyline with multiple characters, plot twists, and a defined beginning, middle, and end. Much of the story unfolds through video-game-style cut scenes that are fully voice acted, down to the emphatic bawks of Star Cow’s chicken like co-pilot. The room even opens with an animated late 1980s and early 1990s-inspired cartoon title sequence, complete with a synth rock theme song that perfectly sets the tone and may stay stuck in your head for days.

This strong narrative focus will not be everyone’s preference. Guests who enjoy quirky parody and Doldrick’s signature sense of humor will find a lot to love. Players who prefer a rapid succession of puzzles with minimal interruption may feel that the cut scenes slow the pacing.
Puzzle variety and game flow
From a gameplay perspective, “Galactic Beef” offers an impressive range of puzzle styles. The room blends physical challenges, computer-based games, and puzzles that are either easy to understand but difficult to execute or initially unclear but simple once the goal clicks.
Our group of six often found ourselves juggling multiple objectives at once. We were able to split up efficiently, and each player gravitated toward the type of puzzle they most enjoyed. The variety kept engagement high throughout the 90-minute experience and ensured that everyone consistently had something meaningful to work on.

One area that could use refinement is failure feedback. On several occasions, we submitted an answer and were met with silence. It was difficult to determine whether there was a built in delay, an incorrect solution, or a technical issue. A simple tone, light, or confirmation indicator to acknowledge input would go a long way toward maintaining momentum and preventing unnecessary confusion.
Accessibility and attention to detail
One of the room’s strongest attributes is its accessibility. The fully voice-acted cut scenes are captioned and clearly titled, ensuring that guests with hearing or vision limitations can follow the story. The room design requires no crawling, climbing, or overhead reaching, making it wheelchair friendly. Smoke and strobe effects enhance the immersion, but can be minimized or eliminated upon request for comfort or sensory needs.
It is clear these considerations were part of the design from the beginning, and it is refreshing to see accessibility handled so thoughtfully.
For returning players, there are several references to Doldrick’s previous rooms woven into the experience. These callbacks are fun for longtime fans but may go unnoticed by newcomers. At times, I found myself explaining inside jokes to teammates who had not yet played the earlier games.
Final thoughts on ‘Galactic Beef’ at Doldrick’s Escape Room
“Galactic Beef: The Cosmic Adventures of Star Cow” may divide players stylistically, but its quality, technology, and scope are undeniable. Those looking for an immersive escape room experience with wry humor, long-form storytelling, and more than subtle nods to classic space operas will find exactly what they are looking for.

At 90 minutes, the room has plenty of time to breathe, and our group of six experienced escapers made it out with about 20 minutes to spare. Whether you embrace the cartoonish charm or wish for fewer cut scenes, there is no denying that Doldrick’s continues to push the boundaries of what a modern escape room can be.
