Halloween Horror Nights 2020 has officially been canceled for both Universal Orlando Resort and Universal Studios Hollywood.

The news was shared in a letter to Team Members from Bill Davis, president and COO of Universal Orlando Resort. Statements followed on the official Twitters for both events, which you can read below:

This year would have been the 30th anniversary of the event at Universal Orlando Resort. Universal Studios Hollywood has yet to officially reopen its theme park, as the State of California has not shared reopening guidelines for theme parks and attractions just yet.

This comes as a shock to most Halloween Horror Nights fans, as the event in Orlando seemed right on track to open. Auditions for scareactors had already taken place and roles had been assigned to those working the event. The Tribute Store even received its facade for this year, and was expected to open to guests today, July 24.

It is possible that the Tribute Store could still open to guests at some point, but for now, it looks as though we’ll have to wait until 2021 for the horror to return.
