Haunt Review: ‘Angel of Light’ Delights at historic Los Angeles Theatre

Los Angeles haunt fans got a new treat this year with the introduction of horror production “Angel of Light” at the historic Los Angeles Theatre in Los Angeles, California. This truly immersive experience is part interactive theatre, part haunted maze, and part traditional theatre.

If you’ve never been inside the Los Angeles Theatre, that’s reason enough to attend this new production. The rarely used theatre built in 1931 is full of the ornate grandeur you would expect from a theatre of that time. Add in the lighting, actors, and production elements from “Angel of Light” and your eyes will be overwhelmed by the sinister beauty.

“Angel of Light” was created by ODEON, a leading immersive experience and technology company, in collaboration with Fever. The story takes place in 1935 where you’ll witness the story and curse of Rota Krisha. But this is just the beginning of Rota Krisha’s story as the live production serves as a prequel to the film “Hex,” from writer/director Chris Anastas, set for release in 2025. “Angel of Light” introduces a brand-new fictional universe years before the movie release. Think of it as the most epic sneak peek you’ll ever get.

Throughout the production you’ll experience ancient curses, sonic secrets, and demonic possessions. The cast of the show is fully committed, bringing you deeper and deeper into the story. You’ll also venture deeper into the Los Angeles Theatre than guests ever have before. While the production takes full advantage of the beautiful lobby and auditorium spaces, you’ll also step into dressing rooms and other backstage areas not typically witnessed by the public.

There are so many things I love about this production. I love how I was immediately brought back in time the moment I stepped into the theatre. Period appropriate costumes and the nature of the venue made me feel like I stepped into a time machine.

I also loved how there were surprises around every corner. Just when you think you know what “Angel of Light” is, some new experience comes your way. Entering the lobby set the mood, but you’re also left to your own will to explore. I encourage you to talk to the characters, listen in on phone calls, and explore every nook and cranny you can.

There’s also a portion of the experience that works like a traditional haunted house maze. Although the overall production is full of beauty, don’t be fooled. There are genuine scares around every corner. One detail that personally impressed me was the construction and design of the walk-through maze portion. When I touched the faux brick walls, they felt like actual brick. This was no fiberglass or plastic knock-off like you’d find in many haunts. Even professional ones. The details are unprecedented.

The overall sound quality of the production also went above and beyond. It’s very tough to fill every space in a theatre venue with quality sound. But “Angel of Light” does just that with Dolby Atmos sound in addition to projection mapping.

Everything about this production and haunt experience reeks of high end quality. From top-notch performers, to over the top production value, to an insanely stunning location, your senses will be overwhelmed.

The experience lasts for approximately 60 minutes with tickets starting as low as $59.50. They recently added VIP tickets options with bonus add-ons. This production ends on Halloween night, October 31st. I highly recommend you check this one out before it’s gone for good. Learn more and get tickets at AngelOfLight.live.
