The final operating day for both Malibu Norcross in Norcross, Ga., and Mountasia in Marietta, Ga., was Sept. 28, 2025, according to local Atlanta station WSB-TV. Both attractions were family fun centers with activities such as go-karting, miniature golf, and arcade games.
Herschend Family Entertainment owned both properties, but only just acquired them earlier this year from Palace Entertainment, along with Kennywood (near Pittsburgh, Penn.) and Lake Compounce (near Hartford, Conn.), among other attractions. Herschend also owns Dollywood and Silver Dollar City (and did so prior to the Palace purchases.)

“These centers have played an important role in their communities, and we’re incredibly grateful to the hosts who’ve created so many joyful memories for families,” said Andrew Wexler, CEO of Herschend, in a statement to WSB. “This decision is in no way a reflection on the hosts or the quality of the experiences offered, but rather a recognition that Family Entertainment Centers operate differently than the types of attractions we are best structured to support.”
In March 2025, Herschend acquired a collection of parks and attractions from Palace Entertainment. In July, Herschend sold three former Palace properties, all water parks, to bowling alley company Lucky Strike Entertainment. With Malibu and Mountasia, Herschend has folded two additional properties.
The news comes as another amusement company, Six Flags, likewise evaluates its portfolio. Following Six Flags’ 2024 merge with Cedar Fair, the company will permanently close Six Flags America near Washington, D.C., next month.
