A sweet legacy: 120 years of Hersheypark

Originally opened in 1906 by Milton S. Hershey as a leisure park for employees of the Hershey Chocolate Company, Hersheypark has grown into the largest amusement park in Pennsylvania. Over the decades, it has evolved from a simple picnic ground into a major regional destination known for its coaster lineup, family-friendly attractions, and signature candy-themed environment.

Today, the park features more than 50 rides, including 14 roller coasters. Among them, Comet continues to make history as the park’s oldest continuously operating coaster, now celebrating 80 years.

Spring season begins with limited schedule

Hersheypark will operate on a spring weekends schedule through May 17, offering seven select weekends of operation. Guests visiting during this period can expect extended hours over Easter weekend, followed by the transition to daily summer operations beginning May 21.

Spring admission includes:

  • Access to more than 50 rides (weather permitting)
  • Hershey Character meet-and-greets with favorites like Hershey Bar and Reese
  • “Our Friends From The Sea” animal shows featuring seals and sea lions
  • Admission to ZooAmerica, home to North American wildlife

The park is also introducing new seasonal food and beverage offerings, including additional flavors for its popular King Size Shakes, which celebrate their 10th anniversary this year.

Why regional parks follow a seasonal calendar

Unlike major destination resorts such as Walt Disney World or Universal Orlando, regional amusement parks like Hersheypark typically operate on a seasonal schedule. This approach is driven by several factors, including climate considerations with colder winter temperatures in the Northeast, plus extended winter closures allow for large-scale ride refurbishments and infrastructure upgrades.

This seasonal cadence allows parks like Hersheypark to reopen each spring with refreshed attractions, updated offerings, and fully serviced rides.

Looking ahead to the 2026 season

With its milestone 120th year underway, Hersheypark enters the 2026 season with a strong mix of classic attractions, seasonal entertainment, and evolving culinary offerings. As spring weekends lead into the peak summer travel season, the park is positioned to once again serve as a key regional draw for families and thrill-seekers across the Northeast.

Hersheypark is currently operating on a spring weekends schedule through May 17, 2026, before switching to daily summer operations.

Spring weekends (April 3 – May 17):

  • Easter weekend (April 3–5, 2026)
  • Open Saturdays and Sundays
  • Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays in May
  • Typical hours range from 11:00 a.m. opening to evening closures (generally between 6:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m., depending on the day)

Daily summer operations begin: May 21, 2026
