Minionwood takes over Hollywood, Calif. from June 24-26, 2022 with Minion-worthy events and activities, celebrity guests, and the World Fan Premier of the movie, “Minions: The Rise of Gru,” which hits theaters on July 1, 2022.
The celebration kicks off at 11 a.m. on June 24, when Minion Bob becomes the star of the show as his hands and feet are immortalized in cement at the TCL Chinese Theater on Hollywood Boulevard. Steve Carell, who voiced the character Gru in each of the “Minions” and “Despicable Me” movies will attend the event, as will Illumination founder and CEO Chris Meledandri.
Milk Studios Los Angeles will transform into the invitation-only The Skate Experience at 6 p.m. on June 24, gathering together celebrities, their families, media, and creators for a roller-skating event that will feature a DJ set by “Rise of Gru” co-star RZA.
On June 25, the Minions take over the Ovation Hollywood entertainment complex at 11 a.m., unveiling the “Despicable Discs” immersive 1970s pop-up record store designed especially for the weekend event. Pre-registered guests will be able to buy a record from artists who contributed to the movie soundtrack for just $5, a cost that is in line with 1970s pricing.
The Minions-themed store will feature artwork from the 1970s musical era, plus two secret rooms with immersive photo spaces and a listening station. “Despicable Discs” will be open throughout the weekend event, from 11 a.m. – 7 p.m. To pre-register, visit DespicableDiscs.com starting at noon PT on June 16.
The World Fan Premier of Illumination’s “Minions: The Rise of Gru” will take place on June 25 at the TCL Chinese Theater, preceded by red-carpet arrivals at noon and screenings of the film in four theaters simultaneously (one at the TLC Chinese Theater and three in the TCL Chinese 6), starting at 1 p.m.
An invitation-only reception will be held at Ovation Hollywood prior to the premier and will include a Minions-themed arcade and mischievous activities. It will also be the venue for a post-premier reception.
The arcade will be open to the public from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. on June 26, while Minions activities, photo ops and more will be offered at the Ovation Hollywood Arch and courtyard throughout the weekend.
Illumination’s “Minions: The Rise of Gru” is the supervillain’s origin story, focused on 12-year-old Gru and how he met the now-iconic Minions in the 1970s.
