Inside Out Emotional Whirlwind now open in Pixar Pier

After celebrating its first anniversary just last week, Pixar Pier at Disney California Adventure is now complete with the opening of the fourth and final neighborhood: Inside Out Headquarters, and its main attraction, Inside Out Emotional Whirlwind.

“’Inside Out’ is one of Pixar’s most beloved films, and it’s the first time we’ve been able to pull it off the screen and make it physical so people can visit it with their family and friends,” says Krista Sheffler, project manager for theme parks at Pixar Animation Studios.

The centerpiece of the new neighborhood is the reimagined Inside Out Emotional Whirlwind. During their spin aboard this colorful family-friendly attraction, guests ride in eight Memory Movers guided by Riley’s emotions – Joy, Sadness, Anger, Disgust, and Fear.

What makes this ride unique is that it offers five different versions of the experience. Each version features one of the emotions, and each is accompanied by a distinct musical track, all created by Academy Award-winning composer Michael Giacchino, who also composed the music for Pixar Pier’s Incredicoaster. According to Sheffler, the attraction is even more beautiful at night when the memory spheres are illuminated.

Elliott Rosenbaum, creative producer at Walt Disney Imagineering, describes Inside Out Emotional Whirlwind as a beautiful punctuation mark on the Pixar Pier project.

“The story of the attraction is that we’re here to make and sort memories,” said Rosenbaum. “For the last year, guests have been making happy memories here with their friends and families, so with the opening of Inside Out Emotional Whirlwind, it really cements that Pixar Pier is the home of happy memories here at [Disney] California Adventure.”
