‘Jurassic Park’ 30th anniversary celebration is coming to Universal theme parks

To celebrate 30 years since the groundbreaking blockbuster “Jurassic Park” first appeared in theaters, Universal and Amblin Entertainment are re-opening the park gates for fans, old and new. Life finds a way during June with new broadcast, digital, and game content, as well as exclusive merchandise across a variety of categories, a re-release of the film, retail promotions, anniversary celebration events, fan conventions, and special theme park experiences.

“The legacy of Jurassic Park is felt across the world,” said Melissa Rodriguez, vice president of franchise strategy for Universal Products & Experiences. “The film has stayed entrenched in the hearts and minds of viewers since its initial release 30 years ago, while also delighting new fans every year. We’re looking forward to celebrating the footprint this film has left on fans globally through special events, unique merchandise, games and more!”

To start the nostalgia-filled anniversary, the Jurassic World YouTube channel released a “lost” training video featuring the popular character, Mr. DNA. Several more episodes in this digital series will be available later this month on the Jurassic World YouTube channel.  

Universal Theme Parks

Universal theme parks around the world will get involved with this 30th-anniversary celebration. In China, Universal Beijing Resort will offer new “Jurassic Park” 30th Anniversary products this summer, and Universal Studios Hollywood will celebrate with specialty food and beverage and exclusive merchandise.

At Universal Orlando Resort, the 30-year anniversary celebration includes merchandise, food, and beverages like the other two theme parks. However, Universal Orlando will also create a “Jurassic Park” Tribute Store. Universal Orlando presented guests with a Jurassic World Tribute Store two years ago, so guests can expect some of the same excellent theming and surprises with this new Tribute Store.

Rumors indicate the new Tribute Store will open in late May, which would be consistent with the opening dates of other summer Tribute Stores.

On April 24th, we noticed some 30th-anniversary merchandise has already started to appear at Universal Orlando. With this new summer Tribute Store confirmed, we’re sure there will be even more classic dinosaur-based merchandise at the parks.

Global Events in Celebration of “Jurassic Park“

Across Europe, fans have been asked to get involved with celebrating the 30th anniversary on social media, including voting for their favorite original dinosaur.  The winning dinosaurs from each country will be brought to life across multiple cities later this summer. Fans can follow this vote and results via #JurassicPark30 to discover more.

The Natural History Museum of London will be celebrating the 30-year anniversary with a special pop-up store until September 2023. In addition to new merchandise, the museum’s Cranborne Boutique has been redecorated to include the iconic gates from the film and the opportunity to take a selfie with a dinosaur. The Jurassic World By Brickman Exhibition moves to New Zealand in June, then Brisbane in December, with a second exhibition launching in Sweden in April.

Fan Conventions Celebrating “Jurassic Park”

Recently at Supernova Comic Con in Australia, which just happened April 22-23, 2023, fans experienced some dinosaur-sized fun as they interacted with an iconic T-Rex. Similar experiences will be coming to Comic-Con International in San Diego (July 19-23, 2023); London Comic Con Winter (Nov. 11-12, 2023); and Comic Con Experience (CCXP) in Brazil (Nov. 30 – Dec. 3, 2023).

Some additional events taking place throughout the year include Jurassic World: The Exhibition on tour in Canada and Germany, the Jurassic World Live Tour by Feld at key U.S. markets, and Jurassic Park in concert with a live orchestra in select cities around the world, including Tokyo and Osaka in Japan and other U.S. and international stops.

“Jurassic Park” 30th Anniversary Merchandise

As you might expect, a line of new merchandise will be unveiled for dinosaur fans. These merchandise tie-ins range from a new Jurassic Park-inspired Lego series to a collector line of toys and plush dinosaurs from Mattel. Fans can also expect new toys and collectibles from Tamagotchi and Funko.

Fans who like to wear their favorite franchises will not be lacking choices as brands such as Torrid, RSVLTS, H&M, and BoxLunch will all participate in #JurassicJune.

Video game players can also enjoy this anniversary when several new and updated retro versions of “Jurassic Park” video games will be released this summer.

Last but certain not least, Jurassic World Alive, the free-to-play geo-location-based AR game developed by Ludia and Jam City, will feature new gameplay celebrating the most iconic moments of “Jurassic Park” and the original dinosaurs that fans adore. A collaboration with Limited Run Games to release The Jurassic Park 30th Anniversary Retro Collection is planned for later this year. The collection will include various versions of the classic Jurassic Park and Jurassic Park 2: The Chaos Continues games. Limited Run will also create exclusive, limited-edition merchandise inspired by the titles that gamers and fans can get excited about.

New “Jurassic Park” Content

“Jurassic Park,” “Jurassic Park: The Lost World,” “Jurassic Park III,” and “Jurassic World” will be available to stream on Peacock beginning June 1, 2023. Theatrical re-releases of these movies are planned for later this year in markets around the world. In addition, Universal Pictures Home Entertainment will be releasing limited commemorative editions of the film on 4K starting in June.
