Kennywood Park gave theme park fans a first look at the ride vehicles for Steel Curtain, the Pittsburgh Steelers-themed coaster coming to the park’s new land, Steelers Country, in 2019.

Here’s your first look at the ride vehicle for Steel Curtain.

The vehicle features the iconic black and gold colors of the Steelers’ uniform, matching the track and structure of the coaster, and includes the number 33 on the center of the lead vehicle – a nod to the year the team was founded, 1933.

The ride vehicle’s seats are themed and modeled to look like footballs with the laces facing outward. The restraints are lab bar only, which will allow guests to feel every twist, turn, and inversion along the track.

“With the Steel Curtain setting the North American record for most inversions, it was critical that the trains offer riders a safe and comfortable experience that has them eager to ride again and again,” said Jerome Gibas, general manager of Kennywood. “You can definitely tell you’re in Steelers Country when you board this vehicle.”

Steel Curtain will feature nine inversions, a maximum height of 220 feet, and rush across 4,000 feet of track at 75 miles per hour.

“We are very excited about the partnership with Kennywood,” said Ryan Huzjak, vice president of sales and marketing for the Steelers. “Being able to connect the Pittsburgh Steelers with a family attraction like Kennywood is a natural fit for both organizations, and we are thrilled about the tradition and longstanding history the Steelers and Kennywood provide to families in and around the city of Pittsburgh.”

Ground has been broken on this new roller coaster, and crews will be hard at work until it’s 2019 opening.
