According to Blooloop, Merlin Entertainments is working with the Shanghai Jinshan District Government as well as CMC Inc. and KIRKBI to develop the theme park under a joint venture. Merlin is also focusing on its Chinese developments, recently opening five new attractions in cities like Shanghai and Beijing.

Legoland Shanghai will likely be one of the largest Legoland resorts in the world. The project is estimated to cost $550 million and will also feature a 250-room themed hotel that will open alongside the theme park in 2024.

“The Shanghai Legoland Resort will be a must-visit destination for playful learning experiences for the millions of people who live in the vicinity and beyond,” said Nick Varney, chief executive of Merlin. The Merlin team looks forward to working with our partners to develop the creative concept design for the resort and making it a reality, marking a significant milestone for Merlin’s presence in the Chinese market.”

Meanwhile, Legoland Windsor Resort recently announced a new land, Lego Mythica: World of Mythical Creatures, set to open in 2021.
