Live entertainment returns to Animal Kingdom amphitheater, DinoLand lore expands again
The Dino Institute intern now performs music in the Discovery River Amphitheater at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, reviving live entertainment in a long-dormant venue.

Be on the lookout for the guitar-strumming Dino Institute “intern” performer roaming the amphitheater seats between Expedition Everest and the “Finding Nemo” theater. Rather than performing a programmed show for a large audience, the streetmosphere-style intern approaches families individually for personalized musical moments. Our founder Matt saw him singing tunes from “The Lion King.”

The intern’s appearance in the Asia section of Animal Kingdom introduces another layer of lore to the ever-expanding narrative of DinoLand, U.S.A., an area of the park known for its intricate backstory. The Dino Institute is the name of the fictional entity where the Dinosaur ride takes place, and the intern usually performs in DinoLand’s Restaurantosaurus. While visiting Asia, he told us he was looking for the yeti, doing some field research, and checking out all the different plants and rocks around the area. Does this mean Expedition Everest and DinoLand are canon to each other’s backstories? (We jest … kind of.)
The bleacher-style seating of Discovery River Amphitheater is open daily as a rest area. It’s been several years since the purpose-built venue has been utilized for live entertainment. The theater opened in 2016 with the debut of the “The Jungle Book: Alive with Magic” nighttime show, and most recently hosted viewing for “Disney KiteTails” in 2022.

DinoLand, including Restaurantosaurus and the Dinosaur ride, will permanently close on Feb. 2, 2026, with its final operating day being Feb. 1. The area will be replaced by a land called Tropical Americas, complete with an “Encanto” ride built from the ground up and an “Indiana Jones” ride repurposing Dinosaur’s ride system.
