Look back at Opening Night event for ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’
The Force was strong at Walt Disney World as thousands of fans got together to celebrate the opening of “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” with a special ticket event.
On Dec. 17, 2015, guests and fans were among the first to see the release of the new film during a sold out, Star Wars: The Force Awakens Opening Night event at Disney Springs and Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
Starting at AMC Disney Springs 24, guests walked a red carpet, past banners and spotlights, to the first U.S. public showings of “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” between 7 and 8 p.m. A few characters appeared on the red carpet, including R2-D2, Chewbacca and some First Order Stormtroopers.
After the movie, fans enjoyed a private after-hours party at Disney’s Hollywood Studios which included encounters with Star Wars characters and access to new Star Wars experiences, including Star Wars Launch Bay, Star Tours: The Adventures Continue and more. Here’s an overview:
For one night only during the party, guests got to experience Rock n’ Roller Coaster like never before as they hopped aboard a super stretch speeder and flew through the streets of Hollywood to get to the Star Wars premiere, with special music from the films playing along the way. Take a look:
Guests even got to see the debut of the new Symphony in the Stars: A Galactic Spectacular fireworks show, featuring John Williams’ iconic score from the Star Wars saga, including The Force Awakens. There was even a special introduction just for the event featuring Captain Phasma from the new film.
