Main construction begins on ‘Zootopia’ land at Shanghai Disney Resort

Early this year, a “Zootopia”-themed expansion was announced for Shanghai Disney Resort. This week, main construction on the new land officially began!

This will be the park’s eighth themed land, and will bring the mammal metropolis to life with all the “Zootopia” characters guests love.

The expansion will give guests the chance to experience “Zootopia”-themed entertainment, buy themed merchandise, and dine on themed cuisine. Another anticipated offering will be the land’s new major attraction, though there aren’t many details known about it so far.

“This is an immensely exciting time for Shanghai Disney Resort and Zootopia fans alike,” said Joe Schott, president and general manager of Shanghai Disney Resort. “Since we announced the development of our new Zootopia-themed land earlier this year we have been overwhelmed by the excitement and anticipation expressed by fans from across China and around the world. We are pleased to announce the start of main construction for the new land, a significant milestone in its development.”

The world’s first land themed to the Walt Disney Animation Studios film will create a new home for characters like Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde, as well as Flash the Sloth, Gazelle, Officer Clawhauser, Chief Bogo, and Yax the Yak.
