McDonald’s introduces new purple shake for Grimace’s birthday
Happy birthday, Grimace! Everyone’s favorite purple McDonald’s character is celebrating in style with Grimace’s Birthday meal, including a Big Mac or ten-piece Chicken McNuggets, fries, and a purple vanilla and berry shake inspired by the character’s iconic color.

Who is Grimace? Don’t feel bad if you don’t know or don’t remember. Grimace hasn’t been seen in McDonald’s advertising much in the last twenty years, but he’s big, he’s purple, and he’s a goofball. Grimace and his friends – like Birdie, Hamburglar, Mayor McCheese, and Officer Big Mac – were all sidekicks to Ronald McDonald back in the day.
McDonald’s seems to have realized there’s an awful lot of nostalgia for these characters and for childhood birthday parties at McDonald’s (who else had a party there?) After all, as Tariq Hassan, chief marketing and customer experience officer at McDonald’s USA says, “Our fans have amazing childhood memories of their birthdays at McDonald’s…and Grimace’s Birthday is all about paying homage to the amazing, fun moments we all share.
Want even more ways to celebrate? McDonald’s has you covered. Starting June 12, 2023, Grimace-inspired merch will drop on GoldenArchesUnlimited.com in addition to all the other McDonald’s gear already available.
A free-to-play mobile and desktop game will also come out on June 12, 2023. In a collaboration between McDonald’s and Krool Toys, players will be immersed in Grimace’s world as he gathers his friends to cut his birthday cake at a classic McDonald’s birthday party. The game will be available at grimacesbirthday.com.
Last but not least, Grimace and McDonald’s are asking fans not to send gifts. Instead, well-wishers should go to McDonald’s Instagram on June 13-14, 2023, and share a favorite birthday memory with the “add yours” sticker on their story. McDonald’s will donate five dollars for every picture shared, up to two hundred thousand dollars.
