Merry Madagascar Ice! coming to the Gaylord Palms this holiday season

Some of the characters from the Dreamworks Animation Madagascar movies were on hand during a Christmas in July event at the Gaylord Palms Resort this morning to help announce the theme for this holiday season’s Ice! attraction. But another kind of Ice made a surprise appearance as well. Old school rapper Vanilla Ice sang his hit, Ice Ice Baby.

Here’s video of Vanilla Ice performing:

Ice! is Florida’s favorite frigid Christmas tradition, with over 20,000 square-feet of frosty 9-degree ice played out in a winter wonderland of exciting hand-carved sculptures. And this year, it’s really all that it’s cracked up to be, featuring 30-foot ice slides carved entirely from 2-million pounds of ice and an all-new theme to the DreamWorks’ Animation TV classic Merry Madagascar.

The Ice! attraction is carved by a team of 40 artisans from Harbin, China. They spend more than a month in the area creating this one-of-a-kind attraction. Harbin is best known for its annual International Ice and Snow Festival, where more than 2,000 sculptors annually carve a 100-acre walk-through ice park, using ice from the nearby Songhua River.

But Ice! is just one part of the Christmas celebrations at Gaylord Palms. Dreamworks Animation characters meet and greets and many seasonal decorations and activities will take place, including:

Gingy’s Gingerbread Decorating
This fun, sticky, interactive decorating tradition just got a whole lot sweeter! Hosted by Gingy, the most famous of all Gingerbread men, you can choose from three different design options to create either a gingerbread cookie family or a complete gingerbread house. After you’ve decorated to your heart’s content (don’t forget the gum drop buttons!) make your way to meet Gingy.

Christmas Tree Lighting
Gaylord Palms’ tree lighting ceremony includes singers, carols, lights, and of course, the star of the show, a massive 54-foot tall Christmas Tree. It towers over the St. Augustine atrium. As a guest at Gaylord Palms you may be selected to be a part of the show and help light the tree.

Ice and Gingy’s Gingerbread Decorating are available to those staying at the resort and day guests. Tickets are sold separately but may be included in some hotel packages. Visit christmasatgaylordpalms.com for more information.
