Construction is planned to commence in February 2026 in Olathe, Kan., according to James Arkell, VP and COO of Loretto Properties and the father of the theme park’s namesake, Michael, speaking to the Olathe Reporter.

Michael’s WonderWorld will be themed after sports, with its concept art depicting landscaping in the shape of a football and soccer ball, for example.

Attractions at Michael’s WonderWorld will include:

  • a 4D theater
  • the world’s first wheelchair-accessible giant swing ride
  • a wheelchair-accessible pendulum ride
  • a zip line
  • a teacup ride

In total, there will be over 20 rides at Michael’s WonderWorld, all of which will be “specially engineered to eliminate wheelchair transfers, to ensure ease, comfort, and dignity for every guest,” a post on the park’s Facebook page states.

The park’s website displays photos of Michael (below) enjoying accessible rides at other locations to provide an idea for the types of rides Michael’s WonderWorld will include.

Michael’s WonderWorld theme park is one component of the larger project known as Halo Ridge, which will also include an accessible hotel and a hockey rink.

The website for Michael’s WonderWorld shares some of Michael’s story. “Michael was born with a rare genetic condition, is non-verbal, is fed through a tube, and relies on a wheelchair for mobility,” the website states.

He’s the son of Sarah and James Arkell and the grandson of Lamar Hunt Jr. (owner of the Kansas City Mavericks and co-owner of the Kansas City Chiefs, hence the park’s sports theme). Michael and his family were inspired to create Michael’s WonderWorld after learning about Morgan’s Wonderland in San Antonio.
