Are the Muppets setting sail with Mickey and his pals soon?

The newest Disney Cruise Line ship has just had its inaugural sailing, but that doesn’t mean plans for Disney’s fleet of ships are slowing down anytime soon. With six more ships in the pipeline, there’s no shortage of Disney stories and themes to explore. In a recent article appearing in a special edition of Time Magazine focusing on The Muppets, author Chris Nashawaty sat down with Leigh Slaughter to shed some light on the future of The Muppets in the “House of Mouse.”

Slaughter, VP of The Muppets Studio and live characters strategy for Walt Disney Imagineering, had this to say about the public’s desire for more Muppets: “They want some laughs and a little bit of joy. We’re here to make the world a whole lot happier and a little weirder.” Author Chris Nashawaty then goes on to say in his article, “To that end, fans may want to start booking their travel plans for next year, because they’re about to see a lot more of Kermit and company at Disney’s cruise ships and theme parks, including live appearances from the characters on land and sea.”

The reference to The Muppets at sea stops there, as Nashawaty continues on to detail the new Muppets take over of Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster coming to Disney’s Hollywood Studios in 2026.

Nothing has been formally announced by Disney Cruise Line when it comes to future Muppets entertainment offerings on their ships. It wouldn’t be the characters’ first time on a Disney ship, as The Muppets appear in the interactive “Midship Detective Agency” game on the Disney Fantasy.

  1. I hope they put Statler & Waldorf in one of the boxes of the Walt Disney Theater to “harass” the cruise director during their remarks before/after the evening shows —– or even better add a new show with the Muppets with Statler & Waldorf interacting throughout the show.

  2. The Midship Detective Agency is also on the Dream. Pépé has his own room, door, and phone number. Its so much fun to play, I’ve done it multiple times on multiple sailings! I don’t have kids.
