Tips for a high score on the new Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin (2026)
If you were constantly scoring high points on Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin before its refurbishment… your strategy is going to need to change.

We’re dealing with a completely different beast here, and that’s a good thing. The upgrades that Space Ranger Spin has received have completely revamped the gameplay, offering a brand new and honestly quite challenging spin (pun intended) on the attraction you used to know.
Quick recap of the refurbishment
If you’re not familiar with the changes, the attraction closed in August 2025 to give the ride a much needed facelift! This includes handheld blasters, haptic feedback, always-on laser, and a new scoring system. The targets that used to be worth 100k? Gone. If you want to become a Galactic Hero, there’s going to be a learning curve, and we’re here to help.
Now that multiple members of the Attractions Magazine team have playtested and experienced the new Buzz Lightyear ride, we’re spilling our top tips.

After you board, the first scene has been reimagined with Buddy, a Space Ranger training bot. This scene is a perfect chance to get your bearings on the new ride vehicle and with the new blasters, but no points can be racked up here.
Disney detail: Buddy has a nod to the previous attraction that Buzz Lightyear replaced along its bottom right. It reads IY-HW3, which is a reference to ‘If You Had Wings’.

Okay, here’s what you’ve been waiting for: the tips. Bookmark this page as we update this guide with our findings after the attraction officially opens.
Space Ranger Spin gameplay tips
- Look out for white pulsing rings around the targets. White ring targets are worth double points.
- Rainbow targets turn the targets around them into a stained glass design once blasted. Once you see the stained glass design, lock onto one target and keep blasting until it goes away. The points values are high and can absolutely make or break your score.
- You get rewarded just for shooting. But note that holding down the trigger results in a slower rate of fire than rapidly pulling the trigger. Yes, it’s tiresome, but you came to win! Rapidly pulling the trigger allows for more blasting, but it can affect your aim.
- Targets that are further away are worth more points than those that are closer.
- Take full advantage of the escape hatch tunnel at the end. I spun the ride vehicle there and racked up a few extra hits on the screen, since the targets are less likely to be obstructed than in earlier scenes.
- At the end of the ride, you can receive a “target bonus” for hitting specific targets. We still aren’t sure exactly what criteria need to be met to unlock these, but we will keep you updated as soon as we find out!
Reminders, tips, and tricks
- Targets light up when you hit them, matching the color of your blaster.
- Just hitting the targets isn’t enough; shoot at the small hole in the middle of the Z targets.
- Pay attention to the audio and physical feedback when you land a hit to help confirm your aim.
Updated April 8, 2026 with a few more tips
Disney detail: Our publisher, Matt, noticed that the inside eye of this creature below was 5,000 points! We believe the claw above you in the first large room is also worth more, just like it was in the old version of the ride.

That’s all for now, but remember to bookmark this page for updates in the coming weeks. I personally can’t rest knowing there’s a new shooter ride open in a theme park that I don’t know all the secrets of, so rest assured, we will be working tirelessly to bring these secrets to you.
The maximum score of the ride now goes above 1,000,000+, so the race is on to get the highest score!

For now, you can also hear from Disney Imagineers for their tips and perspective on the new ride.
