Fire in the Hole

The new roller coaster will join other fire-themed family friendly rides in be in the park’s Fire District, and like much of Silver Dollar City, this ride has an authentic theme true to its regional heritage. The story behind the ride involves a fictional night but an actual event that occurred in the Ozark Mountains. A mining town, called Marmaros, was burned to the ground by a group called the Baldknobbers. As a result people of all ages had to come together to save their town.

It will appear riders are being invited to see the latest fire wagons made by Silver Dollar City Pumper Factory; however, it’s then revealed the town has been set ablaze by the Baldknobbers.

To bring this story to life, the attraction will include three drops, a splash landing, a custom soundtrack, lighting effects, enhanced special effects as riders travel about two-thirds of a mile in just under three minutes. Silver Dollar City wants everyone to be able enjoy this coaster year round. Therefore, it’s housed inside a five-story temperature-controlled building.

When the original attraction opened in 1972, it made history for being one of the first indoor coasters. The ride is currently celebrating its last season at the park, and as of this year, more than 25 million guests have experienced the original Fire in the Hole. Guests can continue to enjoy it through the end of the 2023 season.

Silver Dollar City once again teamed up with Idaho-based Rocky Mountain Construction (RMC) to custom-engineer and manufacture the new Fire in the Hole.

“Like Silver Dollar City, Rocky Mountain Construction is committed to creating custom-built ride experiences that haven’t been done before,” said Darren Torr, president of RMC. “We loved the challenge of engineering, fabricating, and installing the one-of-a-kind Fire in the Hole, creating a new ride experience while honoring a legendary coaster. It feels fondly familiar, yet it will be daringly different.”

Silver Dollar City has been around since the 1880s; however, they continue to grow and invest in their theme park.

“Signifying our biggest investment in a single attraction, Fire in the Hole continues Silver Dollar City’s strategic, multi-phased growth plan offering families opportunities to play and stay together in the heart of the Ozarks,” said Brad Thomas, president of the Silver Dollar City Company. “Spurring the creation of The Fire District, the custom-designed Fire in the Hole makes history as the Heartland’s largest indoor coaster. As the District’s anchor attraction, it will be a favorite rite of passage for families where one generation introduces the next generation to this adventure and where the heroes of today spark the heroes of tomorrow.”

Silver Dollar City‘s Future

Silver Dollar City has announced a $30 million investment toward improvements and new experiences at the park, hinting at more big improvements and exciting new attractions in the coming years.
