New Mickey & Friends variant covers celebrate epic Marvel superhero teams
As Marvel begins 60th anniversary celebrations for the Avengers and the X-Men, Mickey & Friends variant covers will feature an epic Disney crossover.
Many comic books will have a main cover plus additional variant covers featuring different artists; however, few are as big as the world’s most famous mouse taking over the cover of (arguably) the world’s most famous superhero: Spider-Man.
Last year, to celebrate Disney turning 100, we saw Mickey and friends take over variant covers of Amazing Spider-Man, and now they’re at it again.
This year they’ve already taken over Amazing Spider-Man #41 with a variant cover paying homage to the very first Avengers comic. Much like the classic comic, turned Disney+ series, “What If…?” the variant cover for issue #41 says, “What If…Peg Leg Pete was the God of Mischief.” Issues #43 and #45 have also released their variant artwork; however, the issues will come out on Feb. 14 and March 13, 2024, respectively.
New Mickey & Friends Variant Covers Released
The newly released covers will be for Spider-Man #47, #49, and #51. The actual comic releases will be on April 10, May 8, and June 5, 2024, respectively. The first of the three new releases will depict Mickey & Friends paying homage to West Coast Avengers #1 dressed as Tigra, Mockingbird, Hawkeye, Iron man, and Wonder Man.
Iissue #49 will go back to the Silver Age of comics, with Donald Duck dressed as Havoc paying tribute to Neal Adams’ revolutionary X-Men #58 cover. The Spider-Man #51 variant cover will feature Minnie Mouse as Dazzler as a nod to Dazzler’s first ever appearance in Uncanny X-Men #130.
