Nighttime light show ‘Astra Lumina’ creates a magical atmosphere in Palos Verdes, California

 As if the South Coast Botanic Garden wasn’t naturally beautiful already, these added lighting effects take guests on a magical walking journey throughout the grounds. The self-guided stroll shares a special connection with the night sky above. Through lighting, music, projection, and other multi-media sources, we are visited by the stars.

The experience invites stargazers to encounter the wonder of the star and embrace their own human light. By the end of the journey, the luminous orbs regenerate, rise, and reunite in the night sky to shine brighter than ever before.

There are nine different areas to walk through, each with their own unique features and themes. Some of these include Starlight Lanterns, Falling Stars, Astral Genesis, and more. Through the use of theatrical lighting and special effects, each different area does a great job setting a new mood. Each section makes you feel different and look inward throughout the experience.

Guests are welcome to simply walk the path and enjoy the visuals. Or if you’d like to get a bit more out of the experience, each section begins with a light up sign and scannable QR code. As each section plays the music and light show in a loop, the sign informs you how long the loop takes to run fully, typically a few minutes long.

If you scan the QR code, you’ll receive a small entry of text further describing the story being told. Whether you choose to scan and read, or simply look and create your own story, you’ll surely enjoy the beauty surrounding you.

This experience is great for a romantic date night, a night out with friends, one for the whole family, or even a solo experience. Regardless of who attends, their imagination can’t help but create and wander.
