The Notre Dame Cathedral is almost ready for its reopening, and Disneyland Paris will recognize the historic occasion with a pre-show to its nightly “Disney Illuminations” fireworks spectacular from Dec. 5-14, 2024. The program will feature fireworks, drones, and projections honoring the Notre Dame Cathedral and featuring moments from “The Hunchback of Notre Dame.” Disneyland Paris announced the news in a press release on Nov. 29, 2024.

Released in 1996 from Walt Disney Animation Studios, “The Hunchback of Notre Dame” features music by Alan Menken and Stephen Schwartz. The musicians’ résumés are extensive (Menken with “The Little Mermaid,” “Beauty and the Beast,” “Aladdin,” and others; Schwartz with “Wicked”); together, in addition to “Hunchback,” the pair collaborated on “Pocahontas,” “Enchanted,” and “Disenchanted.”
A fire in 2019 damaged the Notre Dame Cathedral, and the church has been closed since. It will reopen Dec. 8, 2024, according to the Associated Press. The building’s restoration is the work of 1,200 artists to prepare for the cathedral’s return to hosting 13 million visitors annually, according to NPR.
A professional recording of “Disney Illuminations” at Disneyland Paris is available for viewing on Disney+.
