The Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge construction has taken a new turn at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. This photo report, with shots provided by our contributor, @bioreconstruct on Twitter, checks out what new things are happening. Before Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge even had a name, these large conveyor belts were taking massive amounts of dirt across World Drive over to the major construction areas of Hollywood Studios. This dirt has been used to fill in sections of Galaxy’s Edge, new parking construction, and areas in Toy Story Land. Now the conveyors are being torn down. It appears the majority of construction at Hollywood Studios is heading to the next phase.

These next two photos, of the beginning of a foundation, are of the newest area of construction. This spot is close to the Toy Story Land entrance of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. While we don’t know what this building will be exactly, it does closely line up with this circled part of the model below.

This area, closer to the entrance of the Millennium Falcon attraction, is suspected to be a part of the city dominated by the First Order. It is also rumored that an interactive children’s experience, much like the current Jedi Training: Trials of the Temple, will exist somewhere in this space.

This overview does a great job showcasing the massive size of the upcoming land. All of the walkable guest space will be around the current grey and silver buildings. The green buildings on the bottom and left of the image will be backstage areas for cast members only.

To help sell the immersion of the land, large berms will surround the area. In the top-middle you can see the Grand Avenue entrance. This entrance will closely imitate the turn-and-reveal style entrance of Diagon Alley at Universal Orlando. Near the trees on the left is the current exit for Toy Story Midway Mania and the show building for the upcoming Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway attraction.

Closer to the Grand Avenue entrance will be the Battle Escape attraction. This attraction will immerse guests in the middle of a battle against the First Order inside of a Star Destroyer.

Lastly we look at my favorite photo in this collection. In just under a year, Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge has had major changes. Much of the major foundation work for both attractions is fully finished, with exterior decorations currently being placed to hide the show buildings. Comparing the photo to the models, it also appears that more than 70% of the main city areas have been started. We still have to wait until 2019 for the official opening, but it is great to see how far the process has gone in this time.
