A Disney spokesperson has confirmed that despite original reports, Rafiki’s Planet Watch will not be closing permanently at Disney’s Animal Kingdom.

Rafiki’s Planet Watch will reopen sometime in spring 2019 after a lengthy closure later next month.

As we reported last week, the conservation area will be closing on Oct. 21, but is expected to reopen to guests in spring 2019. More details will be released the future as to what will become of this now-temporary closure.

Rumors are circulating that Rafiki’s Planet Watch could undergo a name change, as well as a possible re-theming of the entire area.

Guests who visited Rafiki’s Planet Watch were able to get an in-depth look at animal habitats from around the world, and get an inside look at the care that animals receive at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. This was also the main location for guests to meet Rafiki from “The Lion King.”

While there is no word on whether Rafiki will continue to meet and greet in the area once it reopens, guests will be able to find him in the “Hakuna Matata Time Dance Party,” coming to Discovery Island in 2019.
