Kids can win a lifetime pass to Ripley’s in the My Believe It Or Not Moment writing contest.

Following the footsteps of founder Robert Ripley, who reportedly received many of his best Believe It Or Not stories through reader submissions, Ripley’s Believe It Or Not is launching a My Believe It Or Not Moment writing contest.

Ripley’s invites the public to share a strange, weird, unbelievable moment from their life. It could be an amazing feat, unusual talent, bizarre collection – just about anything at all, as long as it’s true and personally involves the writer. Submissions must be 200 words or less.

There’s a way to get a shot at a bonus prize too; write the submission on an item that relates to the story. For example, if the unbelievable moment happened in a bowling alley, write the story on a bowling pin and send that in.

“We are looking for some truly unbelievable stories told in exciting and entertaining writing styles that we can retell in our publications, and if we are lucky, some of them will be written on unusual objects that will make great Believe It or Not! Odditorium exhibits,” said Edward Meyer, Ripley’s Vice-President of Exhibits & Archives.

The contest is now open and entries will be accepted through Sept. 5 at ripleys.com.

There are four age groups: 8 and under, 9-14, 15-18 and 19 and older. The winner in each age group gets $500. The overall winner gets an additional $1,000 and the best submission written on the most unusual object will receive another $1,000. Each top story winner will also get a special Ripley’s cartoon created of their story, their entry displayed at a Ripley’s Odditorium and a lifetime pass good for admission to any Ripley’s Believe It or Not! Odditorium.
