SeaWorld San Antonio to launch 2019 season on Feb. 23

SeaWorld San Antonio is kicking off its 2019 season on Saturday, Feb. 23 with the first of four new Sesame Street Kids’ Weekends.

Opening later this spring will be a new, interactive sea turtle attraction, two new rides, and the tallest drop slide in Texas at Aquatica.

“We’re looking forward to an exhilarating season jam-packed with a wide assortment of features every member of the family will enjoy,” said Car Lum, park president of SeaWorld and Aquatica San Antonio. “With the addition of Turtle Reef, Sea Swinger, Riptide Rescue and ICU’s Breakaway Falls, we’ll further expand our parks’ appeal to kids of all ages.”

Super Grover’s Box Car Derby – Grand Opening on Feb. 23

Super Grover’s Box Car Derby takes place in the form of a family-friendly coaster that’s full of hills and thrills, including big turns and mini-dives. This is a great first steel rollercoaster for both kids and adults.


Sesame Street Kids’ Weekends – Feb. 23-24; March 2-3; Aug. 17-18, 24-25

To celebrate Sesame Street’s 50th anniversary, SeaWorld San Antonio is kicking off a year of celebrations with special events and experiences, starting with Sesame Street Kids’ Weekends. Guests can join their favorite monster friends for hands-on activities, photo-ops, a live DJ, and more. This event will be held in the park’s Sesame Street Bay of Play area, and is included with park admission.


Ihu’s Breakaway Falls – March 9

Set to be the tallest multi-tower drop slide in Texas when it opens, Ihu’s Breakaway Falls will make a splash at Aquatica San Antonio when it opens just in time for spring break. Riders will climb almost 70 feet to the top of an eight-story tower and step into one of two breakaway boxes, or face the plummet slide.

As the door closes, riders will cross their arms and give a thumbs up, not knowing when the floor beneath them will disappear. Once dropped, riders will descend at 20-24 feet per second into a spiraling speed slide before racing to the finish.


Inside Look – Weekends, March 30-31; April 6-7, 13-14; and Weekends, Aug. 17-18, 24-25

Guests can go behind the scenes and see the animal care facilities previously not open to the public. SeaWorld San Antonio’s veterinarians and animal experts will offer an up-close look at the day-to-day care animals receive. These visits will take place during normal park operating hours and are included with park admission.


Seven Seas Food Festival – Weekends, April 19 – May 27

The Seven Seas Food Festival is back at SeaWorld San Antonio this spring with over 100 dishes to sample, with globally-inspired flavors alongside wines, craft cocktails, imported beers, and live entertainment.


Turtle Reef – Opening Spring 2019

Turtle Reef is an interactive sea turtle attraction that will give guests an up-close look at threatened and endangered sea turtles, plus identify the threats they face in the wild. The highlight of the new area will be a 126,000-gallon reef-themed environment with a unique and natural bio-filtration system, the first of its kind in the world.


Sea Swinger – Opening Spring 2019

This new pendulum family ride will be coming to the Turtle Reef area this spring. The ride will spin and swing guests 180-degrees in both directions.


Riptide Rescue – Opening Spring 2019

Also to be located in the Turtle Reef area, Riptide Rescue will set guests out on their own turtle rescue mission. This adventure will take place on a fast-paced, three-armed ride that puts riders through exhilarating spins.


Jack Hanna and Guy Harvey – Memorial Day Weekend, May 25-26

Animal experts “Jungle Jack” Hanna and Guy Harvey will make multiple guest appearances during Memorial Day Weekend. Hanna will host live shows at SeaWorld San Antonio and share his personal animal encounters, as well as introduce guests to terrestrial animals from around the world. Harvey, a world-renowned conservationist and marine wildlife artist, will visit with park guests and sign his clothing line and art.


Sesame Street Party Parade – Daily, June 1 – Aug. 11 (excluding Wednesdays)

Sesame Street Bay of Play will host a fun summertime parade featuring everyone’s favorite furry friends. The parade will showcase 10 themed floats, including iconic Sesame Street landmarks like Mr. Hooper’s Store and Count’s Castle.

The parade also includes two show stops. At the first stop, performers will jump rope, hula hoop, and dance with their fellow performers and Sesame Street friends. At the second stop, Rosita will be featured as the star of the show.


Electric Ocean – Daily, June 14 – Aug. 11

This nighttime celebration will headline SeaWorld San Antonio’s summer offerings with light and music. The event also features “IgNite,” a fireworks display, and nighttime shows “Shamu’s Celebration: Light Up the Night,” “Sea Lions Tonite,” and “HydroPower: Xtreme FX.” There will also be a party zone with electronic dance music.


Bier Fest – Weekends, Aug. 31 – Sept. 15

Bier Fest will feature a lineup of more than 100 beers from around the globe, including a variety of local favorites. The Bavarian celebration will also offer festive music and authentic German food designed to pair with the brew selection.


Howl-O-Scream – Weekends, Sept. 20 – Oct. 27

SeaWorld San Antonio’s Howl-O-Scream will transform the theme park into a scream park, complete with haunted houses, live shows, themed bars, and scare zones called “Terror-tories.” All haunted houses, shows, and scare zones are included with park admission.


SeaWorld’s Halloween Spooktacular – Weekends, Sept. 20 – Oct. 27

During this daytime event, kids can wear their costumes and enjoy Halloween-themed attractions and shows, interact with costumed characters, and go trick-or-treating in the park. This event is included with park admission.


SeaWorld’s Christmas Celebration – Select nights, Nov. 16 – Jan. 5, 2020

SeaWorld’s Christmas Celebration will return with Santa, sea lions, the Sesame Street Christmas Parade, and more. Guests can enjoy festive food, holiday shopping, meet Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer and friends, and watch seasonal live shows.

These live shows include “Shamu’s Christmas Miracles,” “Clyde & Seamore’s Countdown to Christmas,” and “A Pets Ahoy Christmas.” The entire event is included with park admission.


Three Kings Day Celebration – Daily, Jan. 1-5

Families can commemorate the arrival of the Three Wise Men during SeaWorld’s Three Kings Day celebration. This event brings SeaWorld San Antonio’s holiday season to a close with specialty food offerings and celebratory experiences that honor Latin traditions.
