SeaWorld San Antonio to debut ‘ImaginOcean’ blacklight puppet show from ‘Avenue Q’ alum

Starting June 2, 2023, SeaWorld San Antonio guests can experience “ImaginOcean,” a puppet show featuring glow-in-the-dark aquatic animals from the mind of John Tartaglia, acclaimed Broadway and Henson veteran.

In “ImaginOcean,” puppeteers will dress in all black, so as to appear invisible within the darkness of SeaWorld San Antonio’s Sea Star Theater. They’ll perform blacklight puppets that illuminate with neon vibrance, all while the puppeteers remain hidden to the audience.

“Sea Star Theater has a long history of family shows, and ‘ImaginOcean’ puts a spin on storytelling in a new and unique way,” said Roland Garcia, vice president of entertainment for SeaWorld. “With whimsical characters, toe-tapping musical numbers, and the magic of glow-in-the-dark puppetry, it’s a theatrical experience bound to impress young and old alike.”

The show, which follows three fishy friends (Dorsel, Tank, and Bubbles) on a search for hidden treasure was created and directed by John Tartaglia, whose long career in puppetry has included productions like “Sesame Street,” “Fraggle Rock: Back to the Rock,” and Broadway’s “Avenue Q,” to name a few.

“After our Drama Desk-nominated off-Broadway run, touring the U.S., international engagements in Singapore, Sydney Opera House, and in Guatemala, I am so excited to see ‘ImaginOcean’ find a new home at SeaWorld San Antonio,” said Tartaglia. “This has been a wonderful partnership and I am excited to share this adventure with SeaWorld!”
