A life-sized Big Bird animatronic helped to reveal the big news at IAAPA.

The new attractions will be the first Sesame Street-themed dark ride in Europe when it opens in 2019. The announcement was made on Nov. 13 at the International Attractions Expo (IAAPA) with a life-sized animatronic Big Bird figure, who told guests all about his new adventure.

The dark ride will be located in SesamoAventura, a Sesame Street area of PortAventura featuring the iconic characters from the series.

“Theme parks are one of the most powerful ways for children and families to engage and connect with their favorite characters,” said Ed Wells, senior vice president and head of international media and education for Sesame Workshop. “Our partner PortAventura World, one of the top regional theme park resorts in Europe, has done an amazing job along with Sally Corporation, in capturing the true essence of the Sesame Street brand and creating an immersive experience that brings our characters to life for park guests.”

The nearly six-minute-long shooter-based dark ride will be housed in a newly built 14,000-square-foot building, and feature a 10-minute pre-show. Detective Grover will guide riders through this interactive adventure and urge guests to collect clues that will help solve a mystery.

The ride will also feature eight projection screens, and over 2,000 clues and targets, both virtual and practical.
