The holidays are right around the corner, and Shanghai Disney Resort is gearing up for Christmas, New Year’s Day, and beyond with their “Wonder-filled Winter” event.
The event, which started on Nov. 27, has transformed the entire resort with festive décor. At Celebration Square on Mickey Avenue, four giant Christmas gift boxes wait to be unwrapped each week to reveal a different holiday theme. Along with this weekly surprise, the Enchanted Storybook Castle will be “unwrapped” on a weekly basis during the new show, “Unwrap the Wonder: A Christmas Celebration.” Ice sculptures featuring Disney characters can also be found across Mickey Avenue and the Gardens of Imagination, perfect for a holiday photo-op.
As per tradition, each evening during the winter season, Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse will welcome guests in the Gardens of Imagination for “Mickey’s Magical Tree Lighting Ceremony,” where the enormous Shanghai Disneyland Christmas Tree will come to life with twinkling lights. The whole gang will also appear in the celebration show, “Happy Holidays, Mickey!” Over on Mickey Avenue, the guest-favorite “Christmas Swing!” will take place during the day, and at night, guests can catch a magical “snowfall” and take holiday photos with Santa Goofy in a specially-decorated Selfie Spot.
There are also plenty of holiday surprises waiting to be found in Disneytown! At the Disneytown Christmas Market, guests can find craft stations, food booths, games, and other activities housed in authentic wooden kiosks. On weekends and special occasions, carolers will fill the air with music, and in the evenings, will be joined by Mickey Mouse for the traditional Disneytown Tree Lighting Ceremony.
Guests looking for more holiday photo spots can check out the Disneytown Tree Trail, which features eight holiday trees themed to different Disney characters and stories. On weekends and holidays, families can see Santa Claus appear in a special cabin on Broadway Plaza.
For those still looking for that perfect holiday gift, Shanghai Disney Resort is launching two new merchandise collections. The Mickey and Friends Christmas Collection includes winter-themed accessories, holiday blankets, ponchos, and Chip ‘n’ Dale cross-body bags. The new Duffy and Friends Christmas Collection will have guests falling in love with new plush toys featuring the characters in their new winter costumes, a Christmas Duffy beanie, a Christmas StellaLou wreath, and more.
It’s not the holidays without festive treats, and this winter, guests visiting the resort will find some of the most memorable snacks yet, like Duffy and Mickey Gingerbread Cookies, Chip ‘n’ Dale Christmas popcorn buckets, Christmas Chocolate Log Cakes, and more. Holiday beverages will also be available from select locations, with options like the Duffy Hot Beverage Sipper and Duffy Peach Flavored Oolong Tea.
Guests who prefer to take a seat and enjoy a bite to eat can rest at Mickey & Pals Market Café with the all-new Christmas Afternoon Tea. The Royal Banquet Hall will also be offering a special Christmas menu this year with Duffy and friends, featuring dishes like Seafood Cioppino, Roasted Beef Fillet with Mushroom Duxelle and Lobster Tail, Praline Mousseline with Coffee Ganache and Hazelnut Streusel. On Christmas Day, and every Saturday and Sunday in December, the Royal Banquet Hall will present a Duffy-themed Christmas brunch. In the evenings, guests can enjoy views of “Ignite the Dream – A Nighttime Spectacular of Magic and Light” while enjoying a Frozen Christmas Dinner at Aurora in the Shanghai Disneyland Hotel.
Once the Christmas holidays pass, New Year’s Eve will take center stage with firework shows, New Year’s dining options—including a a six-course meal and wine pairing experience at Aurora and a five-course meal at the Royal Banquet Hall—and more. Once 2021 gets underway, the resort will kick off its Spring Festival with authentic Chinese customs, feasts, festivities and more to celebrate the holiday.
