Six Flags Discovery Kingdom welcomes back Holiday in the Park with new Holiday Market

Holiday in the Park returns to Six Flags Discovery Kingdom for 2022, the event’s 15th year of celebrating the season. Guests can enjoy the festivities at the Vallejo, Calif. park on select dates now through Jan. 1, 2023.

You may recall how the pandemic necessitated a drive-through experience. This year’s Holiday in the Park is back to its regular park operations and “reimagined” with a larger selection of activities and decorations than in years past.

New for 2022 is Holiday Market, a European-inspired area where visitors can find perfect holiday gifts and delicious food sold by local vendors. Holiday Market joins six other areas of the park that are newly decked out for Christmas.

“Visiting Holiday in the Park has been an annual tradition for families all across Northern California for years,” said Dameon Nelson, park general manager. “For the 15th year of the event, our team is excited to present a more immersive holiday experience with newly themed areas, elevated sights and sounds, plus rides that, for the first time ever, are getting into the holiday spirit.”

Those seasonal overlays Nelson mentions transform favorite attractions into Winter Whirl, Reindeer Race, Peppermint Twirl, Sugarplum Spin, and Penguin Plunge. Event visitors can also experience Sidewinder Safari, a new spinner coaster that opened last summer.

Throughout the park, families can enjoy entertainment like the nightly Christmas tree lighting and two shows featuring live animals: “A Very Merry Christmas” (which features sea lions) and “Dolphin Holiday.” Of course, Santa Claus himself is on hand for family photos, too.

Holiday in the Park occurs from park open to park close. The event is included with admission to Six Flags Discovery Kingdom, which starts at $39.99 for the season’s remaining event dates.
