Six Flags acquiring full ownership of Six Flags Over Georgia by 2027
Ownership of Six Flags Over Georgia will belong fully to the Six Flags corporation by 2027 as the company purchases shares from co-owners.

Six Flags Entertainment Corporation will pay an estimated $332.6 million to acquire full ownership of Six Flags Over Georgia near Atlanta, as well as two nearby water parks, as filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) on Dec. 17, 2024.
The purchase pertains to three parks total: Six Flags Over Georgia and its adjacent Hurricane Harbor water park, both in Austell, as well as Six Flags White Water in Marietta. All are located in the greater Atlanta area.
Six Flags currently owns 31.5% of units for these parks collectively. Under this acquisition, which will be complete by Jan. 12, 2027, Six Flags will gain the remaining 68.5% of units. The SEC filing refers to the shares not currently owned by Six Flags as “limited partnership units.” The current ownership structure for Six Flags Over Georgia was established in 1997.
Six Flags Over Georgia will debut the Georgia Surfer roller coaster later in 2025, a project delayed from last year.

In 2024, Six Flags merged with Cedar Fair, the combined company retaining the Six Flags name but forming most of its leadership from the Cedar Fair side. The three Georgia parks are part of a total portfolio of 42 parks. Since the merger, the corporation began a “comprehensive review of the portfolio to evaluate the potential divestiture of non-core assets,” closed several roller coasters, and announced plans for $525 million worth of new attractions opening in 2026.
